Bilingual Sounds is supported by our listener community and the LA Phil. On Saturday, October 11, East L.A.'s own Las Cafeteras bring their two-act production Hasta La Muerte to The Ford.
Rooted in Día de Los Muertos traditions, Hasta La Muerte follows La Catrina, the patron saint of the dead, as she encounters folkloric Mexican characters like La Llorona and La Bruja, as well as modern-day migrants and families in despair. Through a blend of punk, hip-hop, cumbia, and rock, along with choreography and a mix of original and traditional songs, the performance invites audiences to travel through time, rhythm, and memory—a reminder that when we celebrate life, we celebrate love.
